Theatre cleaning in London
Excell has cleaned London theatres since 1994, when our first contract began with a theatre on Drury Lane. Today we are a specialist in the rooms where the West End meets its public: gilded auditoria, velvet seats, marble stairs and stage doors with rules of their own.
Excell is the Official Cleaning Services Partner of LW Theatres and the exclusive cleaning provider across the group's West End theatres. See the six LW Theatres houses
Theatre cleaning is scheduling as much as it is craft. A thousand guests leave at 10.30pm and another thousand arrive at noon. We build teams and rotas around your performance calendar, so the house is always full‑dress by doors.
What we take care of
- Auditorium cleans between performances: seats, rows, sightlines and spills
- Matinee-to-evening turnarounds: front of house, washrooms and bars reset in the interval window
- Dark-day deep cleans: high-level work, chandeliers, plasterwork and the jobs that can't happen mid-run
- Get-ins and get-outs: working alongside production crews to hand the building back fast
- Press night standards: extra eyes and hands for the nights that are reviewed
- Backstage, dressing rooms and stage door: discretion around company and cast as standard
How we work around you
Every theatre contract starts with a walk of your building, front of house to fly floor. We agree method statements for every surface that matters, gilt, velvet, marble, brass, and a schedule that tracks your programming, not our shift patterns. You get a named supervisor, vetted long-serving cleaners, and a specialist firm that has worked theatreland for three decades.
Questions we hear from venues like yours
Can you clean between a matinee and an evening performance?
Yes, that window is our home ground. Front of house, washrooms and auditorium are reset between houses, with team sizes built around your interval times.
Do you work dark days?
Dark days are when the deep work happens: high-level dusting, plasterwork and chandelier care, periodic seat and carpet treatment. We plan the dark-day programme with your operations team around your production calendar.
Are your staff used to working around cast and crew?
Yes. Our teams are briefed on stage door protocol, restricted areas and discretion before their first shift, and many have worked the same theatres for years.
Walk your venue with us
We'd rather see your building than send a price list. Invite us in and we'll walk it with you, then prepare a bespoke quotation around your schedule and standards. No charge, no obligation.
